Description

This Program, in partnership with BC Hydro Power Smart, provides qualified, low-income natural gas residential customers with a free home energy evaluation, free installation of energy saving products and personalized advice to help them save energy and money on their utility bill. The energy saving products installed may include:

  • low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators
  • water heater blanket and pipe wrap
  • draft proofing, such as caulking and door sweeps
  • insulation for attics, walls and crawlspaces
  • ENERGY STAR® refrigerator
  • Energy saving light bulbs (CFLs)
  • high-efficiency natural gas furnace

Eligibility

  1. You must have a residential electricity account with one of the following utilities:
    • BC Hydro, FortisBC, New Westminster, Grand Forks, Summerland, Penticton, or Nelson Hydro
  2. You must live in a detached house, duplex, townhouse, or manufactured/mobile home.
  3. Your combined household income must be below the maximum shown for your household size. Proof of income is required.

How to Apply?

FortisBC and BC Hydro work together to offer the Energy Conservation Assistance Program, so apply to your electricity provider:

FortisBC electricity or Grand Forks, Summerland, Penticton or Nelson Hydro customers

  1. Complete and sign the Energy Conservation Assistance Program application form.
  2. If you rent your home, remember to provide the Landlord Consent Form.
  3. Include proof of income for every member of the household 18 years or older. Please black out all information except for your name, address, effective date and income (Line 150 on a Notice of Assessment).
  4. Email or mail your completed application form to:

  1. We’ll contact you within six weeks, and if you qualify, we’ll set up a time that works for you to review your home’s energy use.
