Description
This Program offers homeowners a rebate upon the installation of an eligible direct vent wall furnace.
Eligibility
General eligibility
- The home must have:
- a residential FortisBC natural gas account (except for strata unit owners installing EnerChoice® fireplaces) and/or
- a residential FortisBC or municipal electricity account of Grand Forks, Penticton, Summerland or Nelson Hydro
- If the registered owner of the property where upgrades were made is not the utility account holder (e.g. landlord/tenant) the owner must have the account holder complete the Utility Account Holder Consent form.
- The home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old and be either a single-family, duplex, triplex, row home, townhouse or mobile home on a permanent foundation. New construction, additions and garage upgrades are not eligible. Apartments and condos are eligible for fireplace rebates only.
- Applications must be submitted within six months of the paid invoice date.
- Rebates cannot exceed the paid cost on the invoice.
- Only one rebate per home for a primary space heating system and a water heater is allowed.1

Furnace and thermostat specific requirements
- All upgrades must be installed by a Technical Safety BC licensed contractor with a GST number and a valid BC business license for the trade applicable to the upgrade being installed. Self-installations are not eligible.
- The furnace must be replacing an existing natural gas primary1 space heating system that’s a minimum of 10 years old. Note: Converting from electricity is not eligible.
- Warranty replacements or emergency replacements of space heating systems not in working order or deemed unsafe to operate by a licensed gas contractor are not eligible for rebates.
- You must install an eligible ENERGY STAR furnace with a two-pipe direct vent system. A photo of the two-pipe direct vent system (sample 1, sample 2) must be made available upon request. - The new furnace must undergo commissioning to ensure it’s installed and operating according to best practice. A copy of the completed commissioning sheet must be made available upon request.
- To be eligible for the connected thermostat rebate, the qualifying thermostat must be installed by your licensed gas contractor at the same time as the new, qualifying furnace.
How to Apply?
- Purchase an eligible ENERGY STAR furnace and have it installed with a two-pipe direct vent system by a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor with a valid GST number. You can find a contractor by searching our online directory.
- Apply online. Your application must include:
- a copy of your paid invoice showing details of:
- all work performed
- purchase date
- make and model number
- installation permit number and the gas contractor’s Technical Safety BC licence number (see the sample invoice for specific requirements.
- a copy of your paid invoice showing details of:
- Applications may take up to 90 days to process. A small percentage of applicants may be asked for permission to visit their home to verify the installation and operation of their new furnace. These site visits are carried out by a third-party contractor and help us improve our rebate programs.
